Half way there

1. Cal, 18-2, 9-0: Beat UCLA 64-48 as they start the conference with 8 straight wins for the second year in a row. Cal has also won a total of 9 in a row, one shy of the 27 year old school record. Rama made her 2009 debut for Cal, playing 3 minutes. Devanei Hampton had her first double, double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Natasha Vital scored 16 and Ashley Walker led the way with 17 points. Lexi Gray-Lawson went 0 for 8 from the floor, proving to be human after all, and it didn’t matter. A very good win for Cal, but sadly only 1,350 were in attendance.

Cal keeps winning the close games and ended the first half undefeated in league play, beating USC 73-71. Ashley Walker scored 21 points and added 11 rebounds as two Cal players posted double, double. Devanei Hampton had 17 points and also added 11 rebounds. On the downside, Cal had 22 turnovers.

2. Stanford 17-4, 8-1: Beat USC 81-53 with Jayne Appel and Sarah Boothe combining for 35 points in 41 minutes. Kayla Pederson with 13 rebounds and great Defense, Jill Harmon and Jeanette Pohlen with 10 points each.

Beat UCLA 68-51 behind the great play of Jillian Harmon who scored 17 points and had 9 rebounds. Kayla Pederson hit 3 of 4 three’s for 13 points and 9 rebounds and Nneka Ogwumike did hit a double, double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both Jeanette Pohlen and Jayne Appel had 6 assists.

3. Arizona State, 15-6, 7-2: Beat Washington State 66-47. Dymond Simon led the scoring with 14 points and Becca Tobin once again had a fine game off the bench with 13 points. Both Tobin and Sybil Dosty had 4 blocked shots.

Beat Washington 80-64. 11 players scored led by Dymond Simon with 17 points. Simon also had 6 assists. Sybil Dosty added 13 points and 9 rebounds.

4. UCLA, 14-6, 5-4: Lost to Cal 64-48. Doreena Campbell once again led the Bruins with 13 points, although she did have only 1 assist and 5 turnovers.

Lost to Stanford 68-51. Doreena Campbell scored 11 points and had 5 assists. Christina Nzekwe, the Bruins big post player, hit 3 of 4 three’s for 9 points to go with 9 rebounds.

4. USC, 11-9, 5-4: Lost to Stanford 81-53. Camille LeNoir was a one person show with 18 points, the only player with more than 8.

Lost to Cal 73-71. Brianna Gilbreath had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Trojans. Camille LeNoir hit 3 three’s on her way to 19 points but she also had 7 turnovers, half of USC’s total.

6. Oregon, 8-12, 4-5: Beat Portland in a game that had been postponed due to heavy show last month, 64-55. Micaela Cocks sang an incredible 6 of 7 three’s and ended with 22 points to seal the victory for the Ducks. Amanda Johnson started at Center and had 12 points with 8 rebounds. Ellie Manou played only 15 minutes, she had started most games at Center, and had 6 turnovers. Taylor Lilly did not play the second half as she hurt her ankle in the 1st half.

Lost to Oregon State 61-42. Ellie Manou had 12 points, the only highlight for the Ducks. Lilly played most of the game.

7. Oregon State, 12-7, 3-6: Beat Oregon 61-42, outrebounding the Ducks 38-19 at the game in Eugene before over 3,100 fans. Tiffany Duck(er) double, doubled the Ducks, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Alex Mitchell came close to Ducker with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Brittany Davis was high for the Beavers with 16 points. Cedes Fox-Griffin added 13 points and 6 assists.

8. Washington State, 9-11, 2-7: Lost to Arizona State 66-47. 27 turnovers eliminated any chance the Cougars might have had. Jazmine Perkins scored 15 points and 6-8 frosh Jessica Oestreicher made her first career start. Elbonee Coates had 9 rebounds as the Cougars out rebounded the Sun Devils.

Beat Arizona 68-58 behind Jazmine Perkins’ double, double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Cougars hit 11 of 23 three’s. Perkins hit 3 three’s. Katie Appleton hit 3 and had 15 points. Rosie Tarnowski was 4 for 4 from three and scored 12 points, and added 9 rebounds.

9. Washington, 5-14, 1-8: Lost to Arizona at home 65-51. Christina Rozier had a breakout game with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 4 steals and 5 assists. Laura McLennan had 4 blocked shots. Sami Whitcomb and Kristi Kingma combined for only 4 of 18 from three.

Lost to Arizona State 80-64. Sami Whitcomb had a huge day hitting 5 three’s on her way to 29 points. However it was not enough for the huskies who suffered a school record 8th straight loss. Kristi Kingma added 14 points. The Huskies still managed to draw 2,931 people to their home game.

9. Arizona, 8-12, 1-8: Beat Washington in Seattle 65-51. Amina Njonkou led the way with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Ify Ibewke had 14 points and 8 rebounds. Faihza Hill was 3 for 3 from three for 11 points. The Wildcats held the Huskies to 28% from the floor.

Lost to Washington State 68-58. Ify Ibekwe once again led the Wildcats as she scored 18 points and added 11 rebounds. Ashley Frazier had 8 assists. Courtney Clements came off the bench to hit 3 three’s and had 15 points.
