Coming and going in the Pac 10

I was going to write about who signed with what Pac 10 teams in the April signing period but then Oregon State had a mass exodus and several also left Washington State. So this will be two parts as we concentrate on the two Northwest schools.

Oregon State has now lost 9 players from this past year’s team. Three graduated, two left at mid year, and four have left the team since the season ended. Since Coach Wagner has only signed two recruits, that leaves a current roster of 7 players for next season.

Oregon State signed two players in the November signing period, Classye James, a possible Point Guard from Mitty High, and Alyssa Martin a combo Guard from Portland. Graduating were Anita Burdick, Stacey Nichols and Julie Futch. The three graduates combined for 10 points per game with Futch starting most games.

The two players who left mid year weren’t in the regular rotation.

However since the season ended four players have or will be transferring at the end of the current semester. Leading scorer Talisa Rhea, 15 points per game, has signed a Letter of Intent to play at Seattle University. She will sit out next season and then play her final year. She would have been a Sr at Oregon State next season.

Kate Lanz is a frosh who was the Washington State Player of the Year as a High School Sr and will transfer. She didn’t start any games but played in most. Kassandra McCalister is a Sophomore who missed her first year at Oregon State and played in 10 games this past year and is transferring. The latest to get a release was Kristin Tilleman who was the 3rd leading scorer, 8 points per games, and leading rebounder, 7.5 per game. She is just a sophomore and was the Montana Gatorade Player of the year in 2007. She is an excellent student, 4.0 as a frosh at Oregon State.

Oregon State seems to be in dire straits unless they can sign several prospects in this signing period. It’s going to be very hard to improve on their 2-16 Pac 10 record of this past season.

Also at least one Assistant Coach has left Oregon State.

Washington State’s Kiki Moore was their 2nd leading scorer at 12 points per game and started every game at the Point Guard position and will transfer. Also Danielle LeNoir the back up and the previous season’s starting Point Guard will also transfer. LeNoir is a soph.

However unlike Oregon State, the Cougars have some talent coming in and getting healthy. 6-8 Jessica Oesreicher will come back from her knee injury and 5-9 Guard Ireti Amojo will come back from her injury that caused her to miss all but one game last year.

Newcomers are JC transfer Rosetta Adzasu a 5-5 Point Guard. She was signed this month. Signing in November was Sage Romberg from tiny McKinleyville in Northern California. Sage is a 6-2 Guard, ranked # 87 overall by HoopGurlz.

Hana Potter is a 6-2 Post from Mn, the # 43 Post named by HoopGurlz. She and 6-1 Guard Brandi Thomas were also signed in November. Thomas is listed as a Guard but had games last year with 23 rebounds and another with 12 blocks.

A lot of movement at Washington State and Oregon State, which leads to my final note, there are a number of interesting transfer available to a coach starting her career.

And… Congrats to the new USF Head Coach Jennifer Azzi who will start her career with a number of Pac 10 transfers to lure to the Hilltop in San Francisco.
