Off to Lala Land

Stanford and Cal travel to LA to play USC and UCLA and they continue to be tied for the Pac 10 lead. Right behind the two leaders is Arizona State, hoping for a NorCal slip in Lala land.

1. Stanford 22-4, 13-1: Beat Oregon State 72-43. Jayne Appel and Nneka Ogwumike each with 15 points. Appel also had 4 of Stanford’s 8 blocked shots. Jeanette Pohlen with 8 assists.

Beat Oregon 68-49 with Nneka Ogwumike scoring 13 points and gathered in 6 rebounds. Sarah Booth added 11 and Lindy LaRocque added 9 points. The Stanford reserves scored 35 points. Jeanette Pohlen scored 11 points and added 7 assists.

1. Cal, 22-3, 13-1 Beat Oregon 84-42. Ashley Walker scored 24 and had 11 rebounds. Four other players scored 10 or 11 points including Shantrell Sneed who had 10. Cal out rebounded Oregon by 16 and had 9 less turnovers, while shooting 54%

Beat Oregon State 62-40 as the Bears and Stanford stayed tied for first place. Ashley Walker broke the Cal career rebounding record in this game, and ended up with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Lauren Greif had 6 assists and Cal shot 51%.

3. Arizona State, 20-6, 12-2: Beat Arizona 60-53, coming from 14 points down to defeat the improving Wildcats. Dymond Simon scored 18 points, Danielle Orsillo added 11 points, Briann January had 5 assists and Becca Tobin had 9 rebounds.

4. USC, 14-11, 8-6: Beat Washington State 68-57. Nadia Parker had a double, double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, although she was only 3 for 13 from the field. Camille LeNoir had 15 points, 6 assists but 5 turnovers. USC had 21 turnovers and shot only 40% in the win.

Beat Washington 77-53. Leading scorers were Brynn Cameron with 13, Parker with 12 and Brianna Gilbreath with 11 points. Kari LaPlante had 6 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. USC had a total of 7 blocked shots.

5. UCLA, 16-9, 7-7: Lost to Washington 59-49. Atonye Nyingifa had a double, double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Darxia Morris came off suspension to score 13 points. However no one else made more than 2 shots from the floor. The Bruins had 23 turnovers and shot 30%.

Beat Washington State 65-50 as Doreena Campbell returns with a passion and scored 24 points. No one else had more than 9 points and UCLA committed 25 turnovers.

6. Oregon State, 15-10, 6-9: lost to Stanford 72-43. Brittany Davis scored 12 points but Oregon State shot only 30% for the game.

Lost to Cal 62-40 while shooting only 32%. Brittany Davis scored 16 points but also had 6 turnovers.

7. Oregon, 9-17, 5-10: Lost to Cal 84-42. Ellie Manou and Taylor Lilly both had 10 points, bet interestingly Manou, the Duck Center, had zero rebounds. The Ducks shot only 31%. Michaela Cocks, Oregon’s leading scored only had 3 points on 1 from 9 shooting.

Lost to Stanford 68-49. Manou had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Lilly scored 12 and Cocks 10. The Ducks shot 29% for the floor.

8. Arizona, 10-15, 3-11 Lost to ASU 60-53 at home before 4,100 fans. Arizona led by 14 at one point but couldn’t hold on. Ify Ibekwe led the Wildcats with 10 points and I believe a Pac 10 best for the season 20 rebounds. Both Ashley Frazier and Country Clements had 13 points, although Clements was 4 for 18.

9. Washington State, 10-16, 3-12: Lost to USC 68-57. The Cougars had 26 turnovers and shot only 35%. Jazmine Perkins scored 17 points, and had 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 turnovers, and 5 steals. April Cook scored 16 points. Elbonee Coates had 13 rebounds but 7 turnovers.

Lost to UCLA 65-50. While UCLA had 25 turnovers Washington outdid them with 28 of their own. Jazmine Perkins had 13 points and April Cook scored 12 points with 8 rebounds.

10. Washington, 6-19, 2-13: Beat UCLA 59-49 to break a school record 12 game losing streak. Laura McLennan came off the bench to lead all scorers with 16 points. The Huskies truly did it with mirrors as they had 22 turnovers and their two big scorers, Sami Whitcomb and Kristi Kingma were only 3 of 16 from the floor.

Lost to USC 77-53. Washington shot only 30% and had 8 players between 4 and the high of 8 points. Christina Rozier had 10 rebounds.

A Tie for First Place

1. Stanford 20-4, 10-1: Beat Cal 58-41 before a sellout crowd. Jayne Appel with 22 points and 14 rebounds and Jillian Harmon with 18 points. Great D by Ros and Lindy LaRocque and the Play of the Year by Lindy. Stanford outscored Cal 30-4 at one point. 8 straight 20 win seasons by Stanford.

1. Cal, 20-3, 11-1: Lost to Stanford 58-41 as Lexi Gray-Lawson was held to 4 points. Cal shot 31% for the game, 13% from three and had only 7 assists to 17 turnovers. Ashley Walker and Lauren Greif both scored 11 to lead the Bears.

3. Arizona State, 19-6, 11-2: Beat USC 72-69 at USC. Dymond Simon scored 15 points and three players, Kayli Murphy, Briann January and Danielle Orsillo all scored 10 points. Becca Tobin scored 6 and had 13 rebounds. ASU shot 46% but had 22 turnovers, 7 by Simon.

Beat UCLA, winning their 2nd game in a row on the road by 3, 69-66. This was a school record 11th straight win for the Sun Devils. Briann January hit 4 three’s and had 21 points, Dymond Simon scored 19 points. January added 5 assists and was one of three ASU players with 3 steals. ASU had 15 steals for the game.

4. USC, 12-11, 6-6: Lost to ASU 72-69 as Camille LeNoir’s last second three attempt bounced off the rim. Ashley Coral hit 3 three’s and ended with 19 points. LeNoir scored 15 points and Brianna Gilbreath scored 13 points. USC had 14 steals, 4 each by Gilbreath and Brynn Cameron. Those of you worried about getting tickets for the LA weekend or the Pac 10, the “crowd” was 862.

Lost at home to 2 win Arizona 74-61. USC was 9 for 37 from three and shot 29% for the game. Heather Oliver scored 15 and Brynn Cameron 13. USC took 39 more shots than Arizona and lost.

4. UCLA, 15-8, 6-6: Beat Arizona 58-39. The Bruin defense held Arizona to 22% from the floor. Erica Tukiainen scored 21 points to lead the Bruins. Doreena Campbell scored 12 points and had 9 rebounds. Atonye Nyingifa scored 9 points and had 10 rebounds. Before the game, not sure when, Darxia Morris was suspended. Candice Brown is now out for the season with an injury.

Lost to ASU 69-66. UCLA our rebounded the Sun Devils by 9, but committed 22 turnovers and lost despite shooting 50% from the floor. Tukiainen had 17 points, Campbell 15 and Nyingifa 13 for the Bruins. This really hurts the Bruins NCAA chances.

6. Oregon State, 15-8, 6-7: Beat Washington 77-63. The Beavers had three big scorers, Brittany Davis with 20, Alex Mitchell with 19 and Talisa Rhea with 18 points. Kristen Tilleman had 10 rebounds. Cedes Fox-Griffin had 11 points, 5 assists and only 1 turnover.

Beat Washington State 52-42. Tiffany Ducker had 12 points and maybe a Pac 10 high for the year 17 rebounds. Cedes Fox-Griffin 10 points and 7 steals.

7. Oregon, 9-15, 5-8: Lost to Washington State 58-45. Amanda Johnson had her first double, double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Lilly missed the game with a concussion suffered last week. Oregon shot only 29% and had only 5 assists.

Beat Washington 77-69. Michaela Cocks was 4 of 5 from three and scored 19 points. Amanda Johnson had a career high 18 points. Ellie Manou scored 18 points and gathered in 9 rebounds. Taylor Lilley returned to action and had 6 assists although also 7 turnovers. The Ducks won despite 26 turnovers.

8. Washington State, 10-14, 3-10: Beat Oregon 58-45 in Eugene. The Ducks shot only 29% and had 5 assists for the game. Jazmine Perkins had 17 points 8 rebounds, 4 (of the team’s total 10) assists and 6 (half the team’s total) turnovers. April Cook added 17 points, including 3 three’s.

Lost to Oregon State 52-42 as they scored only 12 first half points while shooting 14%. Jazmine Perkins led the Cougars with 17 points and 7 rebounds.

8. Arizona, 10-14, 3-10: Lost to UCLA 58-39. 22% from the floor, only 4 assists and 19 turnovers resulted in only 38 points. Ify Ibekwe continues to lead with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 steals, however she was only 2 for 14 from the floor.

Beat USC in a shocker 74-61 at USC. Arizona shot 60% from the field. Despite 28 turnovers and losing the rebound battle by 10 the Wildcats won. Ibekwe scored 27 points and had 8 rebounds to lead the Wildcats.

10. Washington, 5-18, 1-12: Lost to Oregon State 77-63. Sami Whitcomb had a game high 23 points making 5 of 9 three’s. Technicals on Christina Rozier and Liz Lay didn’t help.

Lost to Oregon 77-69. Sami Whitcomb had 26 points and 5 steals, but 6 turnovers. Kristi Kingma added 14 points. Laura McLennan had 10 rebounds.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day at Maples vs Cal

1. Cal, 20-2, 11-0: Beat Washington 70-40 led by Ashley Walker’s 24 points and 9 rebounds. Devanei Hampton added 15 points and 9 rebounds, however she had 6 turnovers. Alexis Gray-Lawson scored 14 points.

Beat Washington State 77-57. Ashley Walker with a double, double, 18 points and 11 rebounds. Walker also had 7 assists, although 5 turnovers. Devanei Hampton scored 15 points, as the Bears shot 53%.

2. Stanford 19-4, 10-1: Beat Washington State 76-46 behind Jayne Appel’s 25 points and 9 rebounds. Jillian Harmon scored 13 points and had 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Sarah Boothe also had 13 points, but 5 turnovers.

Beat Washington 76-54. Kayla Pederson with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Jane Appel with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Ros with 6 assists, and Jeanette Pohlen with 19 points with 4 of 7 from three. A downer, 21 turnovers.

3. Arizona State, 17-6, 9-2: Beat Oregon 68-55. Briann January scored 14 points to lead 5 players with 9-14. Becca Tobin scored 11 points and had 6 rebounds. Dymond Simon had 5 assists against a single turnover.

Beat Oregon State 65-54. It was ASU’s 9th straight win, one shy of the school record and played before 3,413 Sun Devil fans. 19 points Dymond Simon and 15 for Briann January. Sybil Dosty had 10 rebounds. On the down side the Wildcats had 24 turnovers, on the plus side, forward Kayli Murphy’s brother signed a Letter of Intent to play Football at Stanford.

4. USC, 12-9, 6-4: Beat UCLA 87-76 before 8,700 on a promotion day at the Galen Center. Camille LeNoir moved into 5th place all time in assists for USC, notable because she passed Cheryl Miller. Ironically Camille had 3 assists and 5 turnovers in this game. However she was one of 3 Trojans with 18/19 points as she scored 19 points including 3 three’s. Heather Oliver also scored 19 points and had 6 steals. Nadia Parker scored 18 points.

5. UCLA, 14-7, 5-5: Lost to USC 87-76. Doreena Campbell led the Bruins with 20 points. Monquiee Alexander scored 8 points and had a game high 13 rebounds. Erica Tukiainen had 14 points and 4 steals. This loss really hurts UCLA’s NCAA chances.

6. Oregon, 8-14, 4-7: Lost to ASU 68-56. Michaela Cocks scored 16 points, the only Duck in double figures. Nicole Canepa returned to action after being out a month and scored 8 points. The Ducks committed 26 turnovers.

Lost to Arizona 68-44. 7 assists and 24 turnovers summed up the Ducks game. Jasmin Holliday led the Ducks with Michaela Cocks had 12 points and Ellie Manou had 9 rebounds.

6. Oregon State, 13-8, 4-7: Beat Arizona in Tucson 63-55. Brittany Davis was 5 for 7 from three and totaled 20 points. The Beavers were 8 for 16 from three. Alex Mitchell had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Cedes Fox-Griffin had 6 assists.

Lost to ASU 65-54. Brittany Davis was once again high with 17 points. The Beavers had 21 turnovers, but that was 3 less than ASU. The Beavers had only 5 assists for the game.

8. Washington State, 9-13, 2-9: Lost to Stanford 76-56. April Cook had 11 points and Katie Appleton 10 as the Cougars shot only 25%. Cook had no assists and 5 turnovers. Elbonee Coates had 9 rebounds.

Lost to Cal 77-57. April Cook was the only player in double figures, but with an outstanding 22 points. Heather Molzen had 9 points and 8 rebounds for the Cougars who shot only 34%.

8. Arizona, 9-13, 2-9: Lost to Oregon State 63-55. Ify Ibewke with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Courtney Clements with 15 points on 3 of 4 from three. Guards Reiko Thomas scored 12 points and Ashley Frazier had 7 assists. The Wildcats made 5 for 9 from three.


Beat Oregon 68-44. Ibewke scored 12 points and had 7 rebounds but left late in the game with a sprained ankle. It didn’t look good. Clements scored 10 points. Frazier had 8 assists and only 1 turnover. Amina Njonkou scored 16 points and had 9 rebounds coming off the bench. 5 Wildcats scored in double figures and they also had 13 assists against only 11 turnovers.

10. Washington, 5-16, 1-10: Lost to Cal 70-50. Christina Rozier led with 12 points and Liz Lay scored 10 points. The Huskies only had 4 assists, on 15 baskets, and shot 27%. Also they were out rebounded by 20.

Lost to Stanford 76-54. The Huskies have now lost a school record 10 in a row. A big loud crowd of over 4,800 attended the game. Sami Whitcomb was the only Husky with more than 6 points as she scored 16, despite being only 3 for 15 from the floor. Washington shot just 31%.

Half way there

1. Cal, 18-2, 9-0: Beat UCLA 64-48 as they start the conference with 8 straight wins for the second year in a row. Cal has also won a total of 9 in a row, one shy of the 27 year old school record. Rama made her 2009 debut for Cal, playing 3 minutes. Devanei Hampton had her first double, double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Natasha Vital scored 16 and Ashley Walker led the way with 17 points. Lexi Gray-Lawson went 0 for 8 from the floor, proving to be human after all, and it didn’t matter. A very good win for Cal, but sadly only 1,350 were in attendance.

Cal keeps winning the close games and ended the first half undefeated in league play, beating USC 73-71. Ashley Walker scored 21 points and added 11 rebounds as two Cal players posted double, double. Devanei Hampton had 17 points and also added 11 rebounds. On the downside, Cal had 22 turnovers.

2. Stanford 17-4, 8-1: Beat USC 81-53 with Jayne Appel and Sarah Boothe combining for 35 points in 41 minutes. Kayla Pederson with 13 rebounds and great Defense, Jill Harmon and Jeanette Pohlen with 10 points each.

Beat UCLA 68-51 behind the great play of Jillian Harmon who scored 17 points and had 9 rebounds. Kayla Pederson hit 3 of 4 three’s for 13 points and 9 rebounds and Nneka Ogwumike did hit a double, double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both Jeanette Pohlen and Jayne Appel had 6 assists.

3. Arizona State, 15-6, 7-2: Beat Washington State 66-47. Dymond Simon led the scoring with 14 points and Becca Tobin once again had a fine game off the bench with 13 points. Both Tobin and Sybil Dosty had 4 blocked shots.

Beat Washington 80-64. 11 players scored led by Dymond Simon with 17 points. Simon also had 6 assists. Sybil Dosty added 13 points and 9 rebounds.

4. UCLA, 14-6, 5-4: Lost to Cal 64-48. Doreena Campbell once again led the Bruins with 13 points, although she did have only 1 assist and 5 turnovers.

Lost to Stanford 68-51. Doreena Campbell scored 11 points and had 5 assists. Christina Nzekwe, the Bruins big post player, hit 3 of 4 three’s for 9 points to go with 9 rebounds.

4. USC, 11-9, 5-4: Lost to Stanford 81-53. Camille LeNoir was a one person show with 18 points, the only player with more than 8.

Lost to Cal 73-71. Brianna Gilbreath had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Trojans. Camille LeNoir hit 3 three’s on her way to 19 points but she also had 7 turnovers, half of USC’s total.

6. Oregon, 8-12, 4-5: Beat Portland in a game that had been postponed due to heavy show last month, 64-55. Micaela Cocks sang an incredible 6 of 7 three’s and ended with 22 points to seal the victory for the Ducks. Amanda Johnson started at Center and had 12 points with 8 rebounds. Ellie Manou played only 15 minutes, she had started most games at Center, and had 6 turnovers. Taylor Lilly did not play the second half as she hurt her ankle in the 1st half.

Lost to Oregon State 61-42. Ellie Manou had 12 points, the only highlight for the Ducks. Lilly played most of the game.

7. Oregon State, 12-7, 3-6: Beat Oregon 61-42, outrebounding the Ducks 38-19 at the game in Eugene before over 3,100 fans. Tiffany Duck(er) double, doubled the Ducks, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Alex Mitchell came close to Ducker with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Brittany Davis was high for the Beavers with 16 points. Cedes Fox-Griffin added 13 points and 6 assists.

8. Washington State, 9-11, 2-7: Lost to Arizona State 66-47. 27 turnovers eliminated any chance the Cougars might have had. Jazmine Perkins scored 15 points and 6-8 frosh Jessica Oestreicher made her first career start. Elbonee Coates had 9 rebounds as the Cougars out rebounded the Sun Devils.

Beat Arizona 68-58 behind Jazmine Perkins’ double, double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Cougars hit 11 of 23 three’s. Perkins hit 3 three’s. Katie Appleton hit 3 and had 15 points. Rosie Tarnowski was 4 for 4 from three and scored 12 points, and added 9 rebounds.

9. Washington, 5-14, 1-8: Lost to Arizona at home 65-51. Christina Rozier had a breakout game with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 4 steals and 5 assists. Laura McLennan had 4 blocked shots. Sami Whitcomb and Kristi Kingma combined for only 4 of 18 from three.

Lost to Arizona State 80-64. Sami Whitcomb had a huge day hitting 5 three’s on her way to 29 points. However it was not enough for the huskies who suffered a school record 8th straight loss. Kristi Kingma added 14 points. The Huskies still managed to draw 2,931 people to their home game.

9. Arizona, 8-12, 1-8: Beat Washington in Seattle 65-51. Amina Njonkou led the way with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Ify Ibewke had 14 points and 8 rebounds. Faihza Hill was 3 for 3 from three for 11 points. The Wildcats held the Huskies to 28% from the floor.

Lost to Washington State 68-58. Ify Ibekwe once again led the Wildcats as she scored 18 points and added 11 rebounds. Ashley Frazier had 8 assists. Courtney Clements came off the bench to hit 3 three’s and had 15 points.
