All Pac 12 at the Halfway Point

My Nine best on the year so far.

I just couldn’t think of a 10th player who stood out from #’s 11-15. I didn’t want to name 15 at this point, although that’s what the Pac 10 did recently. Then they announced Best Movies for the Academy Awards and they stopped at 9 so I will also.

The players are in the order I thought of them after looking at stats and thinking about their contributions. In any case it’s one guy’s opinion, right or wrong.

Nneka Ogwumike, Stanford. 22.9 PPG, 1st; 11.9 Rebounds per game, 1st; 56% FG%, 5th; 83% FT %, tied for 1st.

Chiney Ogwumike, Stanford. 14.9 PPG, 7th; 10.2 Rebounds per game, 3rd;
59% FG %, 1st.

Davellyn Whyte, Arizona. 19.1 PPG, 2nd: 3.5 Assists per game, 8th; 80.4 FT%, 4th; 2.6 steals per game, 2nd; 38% from three, 6th; 48 threes, 2nd.

Erica Barnes, Arizona. 12.5 PPG, 11th; 9.1 Rebounds per game, 4th; 46% FG %, 13th; 79% FT, 5th

Gennifer Brandon, Cal. 9.8 PPG, 23nd; 11.0 Rebounds per game, 2nd; 1 blocked shot per game, 11th.

Ashley Corral, USC. 10.6 PPG, 10th; 3.18 assists per game, 10th; 49 threes, 1st, 41%on threes, 1st.

Rebekah Gardner, UCLA. 15.6 PPG, 3rd; 6.6 Rebounds per game, 16th; 1.83 steals per game, 12th;

Jasmin Holliday, Oregon. 15.3 PPG, 6th; 8.0 Rebounds per game, 7th; 49% FG %, 11th; 73% FT %, 7th; 2.0 steals per game, 7th, 1.9 blocked shots per game, 4th.

Briana Gilbreath, USC. 11.8 PPG, 16th; 6.6 Rebounds per game, 17th, 3.1 assists per game, 11th; 1.6 steals per game, 16th; 1.9 blocks per game, 3rd; 1.5 assist to turnover ratio, 6th. Briana is probably the best defensive player in the Conference, and that is half the game.

SPECIAL MENTION: Amanda Johnson of Oregon who hopefully will be back soon. She has played in 9 of the 20 Oregon games and not enough right now to be among the leaders. Her PPG is 20.1 and rebounds at 10.7 per game. She is shooting 49%; 39% from three and 88% from the free throw line. She would be ranked in the top 2 in Points, top 3 in rebounds and tops in free throw %.
