Week 2 in the Pac 10

The excitement mounts as the two undefeated teams play each other, Stanford is at Cal this week. In Tempe, USC and UCLA visit the Sun Devils. Should be a fun week and tell us a lot about the Pac 10 race.


1. Stanford 13-3, 4-0: Beat Washington 112-35, largest margin of victory in Stanford history.

Beat Washington State with their 2nd straight game scoring over 100 points,
102-53. The Stanford bench scored 49, to WSU’s team total of 53. Jeanette Pohlen was 4 for 5 from three and 18 points to lead the Cardinal, Michelle Harrison and Jayne Appel both had 16 points.

1. Cal, 13-2, 4-0: Beat Washington State 68-45. Cal out rebounded WSU by 19, and the Cougars went 1 for 19 from three. Ashley Walker with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Alexis Gray-Lawson also had a double, double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Beat Washington 62-34. Ashley Walker scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds and Devanei Hampton had 10 points and 8 rebounds.

3. UCLA, 11-3, 2-1: Beat USC 87-75. Doreena Campbell scored 20 points, 4 for 7 from three and had 9 rebounds for the Bruins. Chinyere Ibekwe had 17 points and 10 rebounds. UCLA had 23 offensive rebounds, the key to the game, USC had 9. 5,201 at Pauly. Good for them, they saw a great game.

3. USC, 8-6, 2-1: Lost to UCLA 87-75. Camille LeNoir scored 20 points and Ashley Corral 16 to pace USC. Nadia Parker played just 4 minutes in the first half after spraining her ankle but returned in the second half to score 13 points in 18 total minutes.

5. Arizona State, 10-6, 2-2: Beat Oregon State 61-36 in Corvallis. All usual with the Sun Devils, all kinds of balance. Sybil Dosty led with 12 points, Becca Tobin with 9 rebounds. Team wise, ASU out rebounded Oregon State by 16 and had 19 assists vs 11 turnovers. Starting Guards Briann January and Dymond Simon combined for 10 assists and only 2 turnovers.

Beat Oregon 81-53. Lauren Lacey had a big game, scoring 19 points in 16 minutes. The Sun Devils shot 54%. Briann January and Dymond Simon combined for 13 assists.

5. Oregon, 5-9, 2-2: The surprise team thus far, beat Arizona 68-55. With both Taylor Lilly and Ellie Manou healthy, the Ducks are a whole different team from pre-season. Manou had 13 points with 8 rebounds. Lilly scored 14 points, hitting 4 of 6 three’s. Lilly also had 5 assists and 5 turnovers, but the good news on turnovers, all other Ducks only had 4 turnovers.

Lost to Arizona State at home 81-53. The Ducks shot 44% but that was 10% less than ASU. Frosh Jasmin Holliday led the Ducks with 13 points, but Taylor Lilly was held scoreless.

7. Washington, 5-8, 1-2: Lost to Stanford by the biggest margin in Pac 10 history 112-35. The Huskies shot 21%, and the other stats were not quite as good. On to their next game.

Lost to Cal 62-34. Liz Lay had 11 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Huskies. However Washington shot only 22%, 9% from three and had a paltry 4 assists.

Next Games: Jan 15, Oregon, Jan 17, Oregon State.


8. Oregon State, 9-4, 1-3: Lost to ASU 61-36. The Beavers shot only 27%, were out rebounded by 16 and only had 5 assists and 16 turnovers.

Beat Arizona 68-43 by outscoring the Wildcats 19-2 at the end. Talisa Rhea scored 21 points, hitting 5 of 10 from three to pace the Beavers. Tiffany Ducker had 12 points and 9 rebounds. The Beavers had 18 assists to 12 turnovers, maybe their best passing/taking care of the ball stat this season.

Next Games: Jan 15 at Washington State, Jan 17 at Washington.


9. Washington State, 7-7, 0-3: Lost to Cal 68-45. They were only 1 for 19 from three. Jazmine Perkins once again led the Cougars in scoring, this time with 14 points, but on 20 shots.

Lost to Stanford 102-53. Jazmine Perkins and April Cook scored 14 points to lead the Cougars. Cook was 3 for 3 from three. Danielle LeNoir hit 3 three’s for 9 points. The Cougars were out rebounded by 20 and had 11 more turnovers than Stanford. 1

10. Arizona, 7-8, 0-4: Lost to Oregon in Eugene 68-55. Ify Ibekwe once again led the Wildcats with 23 points and 15 rebounds. The bench only had 5 minutes of playing time. Arizona had only 6 assists to go with 17 turnovers.

Lost to Oregon State 68-43. Ify Ibekwe had 13 points and 9 rebounds. The Wildcat’s 3 starting guards had 14 turnovers.
