2021-22 Washington Roster

 

Last Year:   7-14 overall and 3-13 in league play.    

 

Coaches:

Jody Wynn and the Staff were released after the season.    So an all new Staff.

Tina Langley

Tina Langley is the new Head Coach after 6 great seasons at Rice and before that 7 seasons as an Assistant at Maryland.    She was 126-61 at Rice.   Langley has two Masters Degrees.  

 

Katie Faulkner comes for Oregon State where she was an Assistant for 5 years.   Faulkner played at Montana where she was an outstanding player.   She will also be the Recruiting Coordinator.  

 

Dan Tacheny is new to Women’s Basketball having coached Men, most recently in the NBA G League.

 

LaTara King comes from Rice with Langley, having coached there the past 3 seasons and before that at Boston College.  

 

 

Losses:  

Quay Miller who averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds transferred to Colorado

 

Tamelya Sadler who averaged 10 points and shot 45% transferred to Colorado

 

Khayla Rooks averaged 5 points and 3 rebounds transferred to UNLV

 

AJ Marotte, ranked # 63 decomitted after the coaching changing and is now at Oregon State

 

 

Additions:  

 

Lauren Schwartz, 5-11 Jr Wing who transferred from Rice.  At Rice she started every game in her two years and averaged 11 points and 4 rebounds.   She shot 42% from three this past year.

Nancy Mulkey, 6-9 Sr Post who transferred from Rice.   This will be Mulkey’s  6^th

College year, one year a redshirt transfer season Oklahoma to Rice.    This past season she averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks while shooting 57%. 

 

Olivia Pollerd, 6-2 Frosh Forward from Australia who has played the past three years on their  U20, U 19 and U 16 teams.

 

Trinity Oliver, 5-9 Sr Guard who transferred from Baylor.  Last season at Baylor she started 28 games averaged 4 points.

Marisa Davis-Jones, 6-1 Wing from Arizona, Ranked # 76

 

  

Schedule:  Games against North Carolina and Louisville stand out.  

 

The Returning Team:

 

Haley Van Dyke is a 6-1 Sr Forward.   Last season Haley averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds and 2 steals.  

 

Missy Peterson is a 5-11 Redshirt Sr Guard from Washington.   Two seasons ago Missy averaged 7 points and led the team with 37 threes at 35%.   Missy missed last season with an ACL.  

 

Darcy Rees is a 6-4 Sr Post from Australia.   Last season Rees averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds.

 

Nia Lowery is a 5-9 Redshirt Soph Guard from Sacramento.  Both parents played College basketball.   Mom at Oregon State.   Nia averaged 3 points last season 

 

Alexis Griggsby is a 5-9 5^th year SR Guard from SoCal who averaged 6 points last season.  

 

Tyiona Watkins is a 6-0 Redshirt Jr Guard who averaged 5 points two years ago and opted out last season. . 

 

Jess Finley 5-10 Soph/Frosh Wing from Arizona, Ranked 94 who graduated early from HS and averaged 1 points. 

 

Jayda Noble, 5-10 Soph Guard WA She is the sister of former UConn star Gabby Williams.  Last season she averaged 4 points.  

 

Alexis Whitfield, 6-2 Soph Forward averaged 4 points. 

 

  

Predictions:  

Mulkey and Swartz will be the main players and getting Peterson back 100% will be a big help to go with the returning Van Dyke.  With their recruiting and new coaching this seems to be a team on the rise.

The 2021-22 Washington State Roster 

Last Year:

12-12 for the year and 9-10 in conference play.   The Cougars made the NCAA and lost by just 4 in their first game.  

Coaches:

Kamie Ethridge is in her 4th year as Head Coach.   Ethridge was the Head

Coach at Northern Colorado for 4 seasons averaging 21 wins and making the NCAAs this past season.   She was an Assistant for 18 years at Kansas State.   Kamie won a Gold Medal for USA Basketball at the 1988 Olympics then won an NCAA Championship as a Player at Texas.

Jason Chainey is in his 3nd year after coaching in the Women’s pro league in his native Australia.  

Laurie Koehn is in her 4^th year and came from Northern Colorado after three years with Ethridge.   She played professionally for 11 years.  

Camille Williams is in her 23nd year at Washington State.  She was the Head Coach at Academy of Art is San Francisco last season and before that nine years at Nevada.   He was a two sport star at Wisconsin, basketball and the High Jump.  

Losses:    

Cherilyn Molina who averaged 6 points.   

Celena Molina who didn’t play much last season. 

 

Additions:

Tara Wallack, 6-2 Wing from Canada.   Tara played on the Canadian U19 team.  

 

 Schedule:   Gonzaga, North Carolina State, BYU and Miami of Florida top the non-conference schedule.

Bella Murekatete is a 6-5 Jr Post from Rwanda and Played HS in Idaho who averaged 8 points and 7 rebounds.    

Johanna Teder, 5-8  Jr originally from Estonia.  Last season she averaged 8 points.  

Ula Motuga is a 6-0 Sr Forward from Australia who averaged 8 points and 7rebounds.   

Emma Nankervis is a 6-3 Jr Post from Australia.   Last season she averaged 2 points.

Grace Sarver is a 5-8 Jr Guard who averaged 2 points. 

Shir Levy is a 5-11 Sr Guard from Israel who didn’t play much last season.  

Michaela Jones is a 5-10 Redshirt Jr Guard who averaged 2 points. season. 

Jessica Clarke, 6-3 Soph Post from British Canada who averaged one point and one rebound.  

Zeynep “Ekin” Çelikdemir, 5-10 Soph G, originally from Turkey.  She played one game last season

 

Predictions:

Hard to believe the Cougars could finish as high as their 2021 Finish at 7^th Place.  However the Leger-Walker sisters are outstanding.

Pac 12 Preview: Southern Cal

The Roster

Last Season:  11-12 overall and 8-10 in Pac 12 play.  

 

The Coaches:  Mark Trakh retried and his Staff moved on.

Wendale Farrow is in his first year after 5 years at Cal, three with Gottlieb.

Danyelle Grant is in her first year after 5 years at Utah.

Nneka Enemkpali is in her first year after one season at UNLV and 2 at UCSB.   She averaged 10 points per game over her 4 years at Texas.  

 

Losses:

Endyia Rogers averaged 15 points, their leading scorer, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.   Rogers transferred to Oregon.

Shalexxus Aaron averaged 6 points and transferred to Syracuse.  

 

Additions:

Clarice Akunwafo, 6-6 Post from SoCal ranked # 21. 

Rayah Marshall, 6-3 Forward from SoCal ranked # 27

Bella Perkins is a 5-9 Frosh Guard from Virginia who was the State Gatorade POY.

Tera Reed is a 6-0 Guard a Grad transfer from Virginia Commonwealth where she averaged 11 points and 4 assists last season.  Tera is from New Zealand.

Shemera Williams is a 5-8 Soph Guard transfer from Virginia.   She averaged 9 points as a Frosh.

 

The Schedule: Iowa will be very tough and maybe Virginia who has lost players (2 to USC).  No other tough non-conference games. 

 

The Team:

Alissa Pili is a 6-0 Jr Forward who averaged 11 points and 4 rebounds in

an injury plagued season but as a Frosh averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds.  

Jordan Sanders, 5-11 5^th year Wing a Grad transfer from UC Irvine.  She averaged 12 points and made 24 threes, not many, but at 48%.

Angel Jackson is a 6-5 Jr Post who averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds.

Jordyn Jenkins, 6-2 Soph Forward averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds.

Desiree Caldwell is a 5-8 Sr Point Guard from Texas ranked # 14 out of HS who averaged 6 points and 3 assists.

Amaya Oliver, 6-2  Soph Wing averaged 5 points and 4 rebounds.  

Alyson Miura is a 5-9 Jr Guard who averaged 6 points but was only able to play 9 games. 

Kyra White is a 5-10 Jr Guard who averaged 2 points.

Madison Campbell is a 5-11 Guard Redshirt Jr who averaged 4 points.

India Otto is a 5-9 Redshirt Soph Guard who played just 3 games. 

 

Predictions:    

Should have solid Post play from returnees Pili and Jackson and Frosh Marshall and Akunwafo.   Jenkins maybe plays more Wing now and she was good as a Frosh last season.  Sanders, a Grad transfer will help however the returning Guards really need to improve.   

 

2022 Recruiting Commits:  

Aaliyah Gayles, 5-9 Point Guard, NV Ranked # 8.   Maybe only one more opening.

Last Season:  5-16 overall and 4-15 in Pac 12 play 

The Coaches:

Lynne Roberts

Lynne Roberts is in her 7th year after moving from the University of Pacific, UOP.  Roberts was Head Coach at UOP for 9 seasons, being named Conference Coach of the Year twice in the last three years.  Before UOP Roberts was Head Coach at Chico State for 4 seasons.   

Gavin Peterson is in his 7th year after 2 seasons with Roberts at UOP.  Peterson has been an assistant in the West since 2002 and an Associate Head Coach for 6 of those seasons.

Joanna Reitz is in her 5th season as a coach at Utah.   Reitz has coached for 7 years mostly D2. 

Jerise Freeman is in her first season at Utah.  Freeman was an Assistant Oklahoma State the past 4 years.  

 

Losses:

Niyah Becker is from Canada, and   She has played on Canadian Youth National teams.   She was ranked # 10 International Recruit.  Niyah averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds this past season.   She is now at Wake Forest

Donna Ntambue, from Canada and ranked # 13 in Canada.  This past season she played just 20 minutes and left the team. 

Lola Pendande is a Post from Spain.    Lola averaged 5 points and 4 rebounds last season.  Lola is now at Miama of Florida. 

Ola Makurat averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds.    Ola transferred to Arkansas State.  

Zuzanna Puc averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Gianna Kneepkens, 5-11 Guard from MN ranked # 65.

Dasia Young, 5-11 Jr Wing transfer from UT Martin.   Young averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds last season.

Maka Jackson, 5-9 Sr Guard who transferred from Texas Tech.  Maka averaged 6 points in 26 points past two seasons at Texas Tech.

Ines Vieira, 5-6 Frosh Guard from Portugal.   Played twice for their 16U team.  

 

The Schedule:   Xavier, Gonzaga, Oklahoma and BYU top the non- conference schedule.

Dru Gylten is a 5-11 Redshirt Sr Guard who averaged 8 points and 5 assists.

Andrea Torres is a 6-2 Sr Forward from Canada.  Torres has played on Canada’s youth national teams.  Andrea averaged 5 points and 5 rebounds. 

Kennady McQueen, 5-11 Soph Guard from Utah ranked # 60 out of HS and averaged 5 points.

Payton McFarland, 6-3 Soph Post from Idaho ranked # 80 out of HS and averaged 4 points and 4 rebounds.

Kelsey Rees, 6-5 Soph Post from Australia.  Sister of Washington’s Darcy Rees.  Kelsey averaged 3 points and 2 rebounds.

Isabel Palmer is a 5-9 Redshirt Soph Guard who transferred from Texas where as a Frosh she averaged 3 points.   Palmer was born in the US but moved to Australia with her family at the age of 4 months.  

 

Predictions:  

Strong Guard and Wing play with Martin, Gylten and Maxwell but really need the Bigs Rees and McFarland to step up.    Plus their top recruits need to play a strong role.    It may be a long season.

Scott Rueck is in his 12^th year and has been an outstanding coach, turning the then lowly Beavers into a Final 4/Elite 8 team.

James Chatterton is in his 8th year.  

Jenny Huth is in her first year after 3 seasons as Head Coach at Northern Colorado.  Before that she was an assistant at UCLA for 7 years.

Deven Hunter is in her first year after 2 years as a Grad assistant at U of San Diego.  Hunter played for Oregon State 2012-16.   

 

Losses:

Katie Faulkner, is now an Assistant at Washington

Brian Holsinger is the new Head Coach at Montana with Jos Tinkle as an Assistant.  

Sasha Goforth Guard averaged 11 points and 4 rebounds.  A major loss she is now at Arkansas. 

Savannah Samuel,  Wing, averaged 3 points and transferred to West Virginia.

Aleah Goodman, Guard who averaged 16  points and 5 assists last season and made 48 threes at 49%.   Goodman was a WNBA draft choice.  

Tara Corosdale averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds.

Jasmine Simmons averaged 3 points. 

 

Additions:

Kennedy Brown, 6-6 Soph Forward was a McD All American and ranked # 19.  2020 was cut short with a knee injury and she redshirted this season.  2019-20 in 23 games she averaged 6 points and almost 8 rebounds.

AJ Marotte, 6-1 Wing who decommitted from Washington.  Ranked # 63.

Emily Codding, 6-0 Wing transfer from St Mary’s.   Was averaging 15 points and 8 rebounds thru most of 2019-20 before a knee injury.  She returned for the last 5 games this past season averaging 9 poits and 7 rebounds.

Tea Adams, 5-9 Guard Grad Transfer from San Diego State where she averaged 11 points.  Dad was an All Pro Defensive Tackle.

Taylor Jones, 6-4 Jr Post, last season Jones averaged 12 points 9 rebounds and shot 57%.

Talia von Oelhoffen, 6-0 Soph Guard ranked # 10 out of HS but graduated early and played the last 13 games averaging 11 points and 4 rebounds and hit 43% of her three attempts. 

Ellie Mack is a 6-3 Forward Redshirt Sr who  averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds.

Jelena Mitrovic, 6-9 Redshirt SR Post who averaged 4 points and 4 rebounds.  

Jovana Subasic, 6-4 Forward, 5^th year  player who averaged 2 points per game

Andrea Aquino, 6-8 Sr Post from SoCal by way of SoCal and Paraguay ranked # 33 out of HS.  Aquino has not played at Oregon State  and is not expected to play again.

Noelle Mannen, 5-6 Soph Guard maybe now a former walk on who played 37 minutes.

 

Predictions:  

Three solid starters in Jones, the return of Brown,  and von Oelhoffen.   Mack played a lot but Brown should be the starter.  Kampschroeder is a top recruit and Adams a possible starter.    It’s a young team for this season, but recruiting well so the future is bright.
