Pac 12 Preview: Oregon State

Pac 12 Preview: Oregon State

Last Season: 32-5, 16-2 Pac 12 Champions and a Final 4 team. It’s the 2nd straight Pac 12 Championship for the Beavers and they ended the season ranked # 2 in the Nation.

The Coaches:
Scott Rueck is in his 7th year and has been an outstanding coach, turning the then lowly Beavers into a Final 4 team.
James Chatterton is in his 3nd year. Eric Ely is in his 7th year.
Sharon Rissmiller moves from Director of Operations to an interim position as Assistant Coach. She was Head Coach at Pacific of Oregon for 7 years.

Losses: Jamie Weisner is a huge loss after leading the Beavers to their 2 straight Pac 12 Championships. Weisner averaged 17 points and 6 rebounds last season. Jamie also made 77 threes at 44%.

Another big loss is 6-6 Center Ruth Hamlin who averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and almost 4 blocks per game.
Deven Hunter is the 3rd started to have graduated. Last season Hunter averaged 6 points and almost 6 rebounds per game.

Samantha Siegner played in every game averaging 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Additions:
Tarea Green is a 6-4 Redshirt Frosh Center. Green was ranked # 45 out of HS and should have a bright future.

Mikayla Pivec is a 5-10 Frosh Guard ranked # 24 out of HS. Pivec was recruited heavily by Stanford and choose Oregon State. She was 4th in the State of Washington 800, 4th in the 1600 and won the State Javelin. An outstanding athlete, Pivec was the State of Washington Gatorade Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.

Kat Tudor is a 6-0 Frosh Guard and maybe the best three point shooter in HS this past season. Kat made 371 Threes in HS at 43%.

Madison Washington is a 6-1 Forward from Las Vegas.

Janessa Thropay is a 6-2 Forward from Southern California.

The Schedule: The Beavers play Marquette and BYU and in a December tourney in Las Vegas. The Beavers play the Washington schools only at home and the Arizona schools only on the road.

The Team:
Sydney Wiese is a 6-1 Sr Guard and the team leader. Wiese averaged 13 points, hitting 66 threes at 36%, down from 42% as a Jr. She also averaged 5 assists per game. Wiese is a three time All Pac 12 player.

Gabriella Hanson is a 5-11 Sr Guard who averaged 8 points last season. Hanson has played on 4 different Swedish National Youth teams during the summer. She’s a former teammate of Stanford’s Bri Roberson.

Katie McWilliams is a 6-2 Soph Guard who averaged 3 points last season but could have a break out season. Katie was ranked as high as # 40 nationally out of HS.

Marie Gulich is a 6-5 Jr Center from Germany who averaged 4 points and 4 rebounds in 15 minutes. Marie was the top rebounder and shot blocker on Germany’s 20U team two years ago.

Breanna Brown is a 6-3 redshirt Jr Forward who averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds last season. Brown was ranked as high as # 49 out of HS.
Taylor Kalmer is a 5-8 Jr Guard who averaged 3 points in just 7 minutes per game last season. Kalmer averaged 19 points per game as a HS Sr. She was just outside the top 100.

Kobie Orum is a 6-3 Sr Forward who averaged 2 points and 1 rebound last season.

Predictions: Losing three starters will really hurt as two were All Pac 12, and top 5 in the conference. Brown, McWilliams, Tudor and Pivec have opportunities to step up.

2017 Recruiting:
Taya Corosdale is a 6-2 from Washington ranked # 35.
Aleah Goodman is a 5-9 Guard from Oregon ranked # 52.
