The NCAA’s begin

Stanford has won 31 games already, just 6 more to go. A 31-1 record made Stanford a # 1 seed and in the Fresno region. The first game is against Hampton at 10:30 AM PDT, on ESPN 2. Monday, if we win, we play either West Virginia or Texas, who we beat earlier this season at 4PM PDT on Monday. If all goes well we move to Fresno for Saturday-Monday games, hopefully.

Hampton is an unranked team and a 16 seed. However they are located very close to Norfork, where we play this weekend. West Virginia is an 8 seed, ranked # 25 and 30in the 2 polls and have an RPI of 39 (Stanford is 2). West Virginia has a record of 23-9. Texas is unranked with an PRI of 54 and a record of 18-13.

The top ranked teams in our Fresno Regional, are # 2 seed Duke, RPI 10, # 3 seed St John’s RPI 11 and # 4 seed Purdue, RPI 15.

Cal is the only other Pac 12 team in the Tournament. They play Iowa for the right to play Notre Dame. The only other west coast schools are San Diego State, Gonzaga, and Fresno State.

The WNIT has expanded to 64 teams. Pac 12 teams are:
Oregon State
Washington
Utah
ASU
Colorado

Other Western Teams are:
St Mary’s
UNLV
Cal Poly Pacific
USD
CS Northridge

The Pac 12 Tournament is moving to Seattle starting next season and for 3 years. Then maybe another locale or maybe stay. The Tournament will start one week earlier for the Women that it has in the past. With the condensed Schedule the Rival schools will play each other twice in the same week.

  1. UCSB is a west coast team and they get to play #1 Baylor.
Just curious, where did you read about the Rival Schools, i.e. Cal/Stanford, USC/UCLA doubling up in one week to play each other?
Thanks, and good luck this weekend.
