Previews and websites of 3 upcoming opponents by Bob Kinder

UPCOMING GAMES:  The next 3 games include the first two on the road followed by UC Davis at home.  WSU and Gonzaga are rebuilding teams that appear to not as strong as in the past with many players having transferred to stronger programs.  All 3 teams have many incoming transfers.  On the surface Stanford will be favored in all 3 games with Gonzaga the most dangerous of the three teams.

At Washington State Nov 14 - WSU Cougars website

The Cougars are 0-3 with losses to: University of Idaho 85-87, UNLV 51-64, and Southern Utah 64-77.  They have two seniors and 3 freshmen and 1 redshirt freshman.  They also have 8 players from Europe and Asia on the team.  
Their leading scorer is Eleonora Villa who is averaged 21 points per game.
Villa is a JR Guard from Italy who averaged 13 ppg for Washington State last season.
three other players are averaging 9 or 10 ppg.

At Gonzaga Nov 16  - Zags Website

Gonzaga is 2-0 with wins over Toledo and North Dakota State.  They have 7 transfers on the roster, 3 of whom are seniors or grad students:  Gunaydin, Lichee and Bettencourt.   They also have 3 freshmen and one redshirt freshmen. Their leading scorers are #11 Allie Turner at 17 ppg and #33 Lauren Whittaker at 19 ppg and 7.3 rpg.  Turner is a 5-8 Soph Guard who averaged 13 ppg last season. Whittaker is a 6-3 Redshirt Frosh from New Zealand.  They have 5 players who are hitting 50% or better on threes including Whittaker, Turner and #8 Bettencourt. 

Gonzaga has always been a tough opponent and is a dangerous opponent partly due to their rabid fan base.  Their player stats so far are shown below - click on image to enlarge.

Home vs UC Davis Nov 20 - Aggies Website

 Davis is 2-0 with wins over Idaho and Weber State.  The Aggies have five seniors including two who are grad students.  And they have 5 transfers on the team.  
The leading scorer is Ryann Bennett at 21 PPG.  Also Nya Epps is averaged 14 ppg
and Megan Norris is averaged 13 points and 14 rebounds.   Bennett is a 5-8 Soph Guard. Epps is a 5-10 Sr Guard and Norris is a 63- Redshirt Sr from Menlo Park and Sacred Heart Prep.

Cal State LA exhibition - 7 pm Wednesday, Oct 29: Stanford won 85-50 led by Nunu Agara's 17 points and 7 rebounds, while freshman Lara Sumfai had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Cal State LA is coming up first, an exhibition game. Last season we beat them 91-70 to start the season. In that Game Sofia Fidelus scored 18 points and Gabriella Rones added 13 points and they both return for Cal State LA..Nunu Agara had a great game scoring 25 points and added 13 rebounds for Stanford.

UNC Greensboro at Stanford - 7 pm Monday, Nov. 3:  Stanford won 87-52 as Stanford's 5 freshmen scored 44 points.

The Spartans are coached by former Stanford Assistant Trina Patterson and they were 25-7 last season. However only 4 players return and they have added 9 new players.

Santa Clara at Stanford - 7 pm Thursday, Nov. 6:

The Broncos are picked 5th in the WCC preseason poll. Last season Santa Clara was 14-17. Their new coach is Loree Payne who played for Washington. The top three scorers for Santa Clara last season all graduated.

The Broncos defeated Stanislaus State 108-52 on Monday. Santa Clara had 51 fast break points and 9 players scored 8 or more points. Kylee Fox had 18 points and Ashley Hawkins added 16 points.

Cal Poly at Stanford - 1 pm Sunday, Nov. 8:

The Mustangs were 14-18 last season. Cal Poly's top three scores all graduated. There are no Seniors on the team.

The Mustangs beat UC Santa Cruz on Monday 87-27. Vanessa McManus had 24 points.  Cal Poly was 2 of 11 from three, however 49% overall. Santa Cruz had 38 turnovers.
