Pac 12 Preview:

Updates: Washington’s GiGi Garcia will redshirt again with injuries.

Arizona has a commitment from 6-6 SoCal Post Semja Smith ranked about 90.


Pac 12 Preview: UCLA

Last Season: UCLA was 25-9 last season and 13-5 in conference play. The Bruins won their first two NCAA games before losing in the Sweet 16 to UConn.

The Coaches: Cori Close is in her 7th season as the Head Coach. Close has 123 wins in her 6 seasons, 20 wins per year. She went to HS in the San Jose area.
Jenny Huth joined the Bruins with Close, so now in her 7th year also.
Shannon Perry is in her 7th year and she coached at Duke for 5 seasons.
Tony Newnan like the others is in his 7th season. Thus the entire staff together from the first season Close coached at UCLA.


Losses:
Kari Korver averaged 9 points and hit 77 threes at 35%
Nicole Kornet averaged 8 points and hit 48 threes but at 26%.
Korver and Kornet hit 125 threes or about 55% of the Bruin threes
Paulina Hersler averaged 3 points and 3 rebounds.


Additions:
Lindsey Corsaro is a 6-1 Redshirt Frosh Wing ranked # 15 out of HS. Lindsey originally committed to Kentucky, then de committed when players transferred from Kentucky. Corsaro played just 4 games this past season before redshirting.

Ally Rosenblum is a 6-4 Soph Post ranked # 47 out of HS. Ally is from the great Mater Dei program in Southern California. Ally did play 12 games but saw little action before sitting out the rest of the season. She did average 3 rebounds in 8 minutes.

Lajahna Drummer is a 6-1 Redshirt Jr Forward who played just 2 games before redshirting like the two above with injures. Drummer has only started 9 games in her 2 years at UCLA but has averaged 6 points and 5 rebounds and will see a lot of action this coming season.
Now the Frosh and a transfer:

Chantel Horvat is a 6-1 Guard from Australia. Chantel was ranked # 15 in the class. Her father was a famous Australian soccer player.
Kayla Owens is a 6-1 Guard, ranked # 45. Owens is from Texas.

Michaela Onyenwere is a 5-11 Forward from Colorado ranked # 10. Her father ran in the Olympics for Nigeria. Michela could also run track if desired with excellent marks for the 100, 11.99 and 200, 24.55.

Japreece Dean is a 5-6 Jr Guard who transferred from Texas Tech. Dean averaged 12 points and 3 assists as a frosh at Texas Tech and was Big 12 Frosh of the week 6 times. She played just 2 games last season before transferring to UCLA so I presume she will be able to play about Dec 20.

Lauren Miller is a 6-1 Forward from Missouri who ranked # 16. Although ranked about 70 my other services.
This is the 5th ranked class.



The Schedule: UCLA plays Baylor UConn and Oklahoma State. In league play the Washington schools only away and the Arizona schools only at home.



The Team: Jordin Canada is a 5-6 Sr Point Guard who led the team in scoring at 18 points per game. Canada averaged 7.1 assists per game with a 2.7:1 assist to turnover ratio. Jordin also averaged 5 rebounds 2nd on the team. Canada is one of the top players in the country.

Monique Billings is a 6-4 Sr Post. Last season Billings averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game. She also led the team in blocks and here’s a great stat for a post, she was 3rd on the team in steals. Billings was rated as high as # 17 out of HS. Another top player in the country.

Kennedy Burke is a 6-1 Jr Wing. Last season Burke averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds. Burke was ranked as high as # 16 out of HS.

Kelli Hayes is a 6-0 Sr Guard who averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds per game. Kelli is from Mitty HS and was ranked as high as 26.
Ashley Hearn is 6-4 Jr 4/5. Hearn hasn’t played much in two years, just 8 minutes per game last season. However Ashley was ranked as high as # 12 out of HS.

Chrissy Baird is a 6-1 Jr Guard who redshirted last season.


Predictions:
A potential Final 4 team if the frosh jell with the upper class. In any case will certainly contend for the Pac 12 title.


2018 Recruiting:
Ahlana Smith is a 5-9 Guard from North Carolina ranked # 34.
Shayley Harris is a 6-5 Post from NorCal ranked just outside the top 100.
Kiara Jefferson is a 5-9 Guard from NorCal ranked # 65.

Lexi Bando

Lexi Bando was an excellent three point shooter, making 76 at 48%. Bando averaged 10 points per game.

Actually Bando is now a Sr at Oregon.

Pac 12 Preview: Oregon

Pac 12 Preview: Oregon

Last Season:
23-14 overall and 8-10 in Pac 12 play. The Ducks lost to Stanford in the Pac 12 Semis and then lost to UConn in the NCAA Elite 8.


The Coaches:
Kelley Graves starts season three with the Ducks. The Ducks are picked tied with Stanford for 2nd in the Pac 12 poll. Quite a turnaround by Graves. Graves coached in the WCC first at St Mary’s then Gonzaga winning 67% of his game over 17 seasons.

Jodie Berry is in her 3nd season at Oregon as an assistant after coaching with Graves at Gonzaga for 11 years.

Mark Campbell is in his 3nd year at Oregon after 4 seasons as an assistant at Oregon State.

Xavi Lopez is in his first year.



Losses:
Lexi Bando was an excellent three point shooter, making 76 at 48%. Bando averaged 10 points per game.

Jacinta Vandenberg averaged 2 point and 3 rebounds.
Mar‘Shay Moore averaged 1 point.
Lauren Yearwood transferred out after averaging 2 points in 7 minutes.



Additions:
Satou Sabally is a 6-4 Frosh Post from Berlin, Germany. Sabally is the top ranked international recruit to an American college. She played for Germany in the U20 Championships.

Anneli Maley is a 6-2 Frosh Guard from Australia. Maley is the 3# 6 international recruit. Played for the Australia U19 team. She was the youngest player on the Adelaide Lighting of the WNBL of Australia.

Aina Ayuso is a 5-9 Frosh Guard from Spain. Ayuso is the # 10 international recruit. She played on Spain’s U19 team.

Erin Boley is a 6-2 Soph Wing who will redshirt after transferring from Notre Dame. Boley was the Gatorade National Player of the Year as a HS Sr. She averaged 6.5 points and 3 rebounds as a Frosh at Notre Dame. She also hit 47 threes at 40%.



The Schedule:
The Ducks play Mississippi, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. They also have a tournament at home with 3 games but the teams haven’t been released yet. The Ducks play Cal and Stanford only at home and Colorado and Utah only on the road.



The Team:
Ruthy Hebard is a 6-4 Soph Forward who was the Ducks leading scorer and rebounder with 15 points and 8 rebounds per game.

Sabrina Ionescu is a 5-10 Soph Guard second in scoring at almost 15 points per game. Ionescu also averaged 5.5 assists with a 2.0 assist to turnover ratio. She made 73 threes at 42%.

Matie Cazorla is a 5-10 Jr Guard from Spain who averaged 8 points and 4 assists.

Mallory McGuire is a 6-5 Soph Post, niece of Mark, who averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds in 17 minutes.

Oti Gildon is a 6-1 Jr Forward who averaged 4 points and 3 rebounds in 10 minutes.

Sierra Campisano is a 6-3 Soph Forward who averaged 3 points in 7 minutes.

Morgan Yeager is a 5-9 Soph Guard from Australia who averaged 2 points in 9 minutes.

Justine Hall is a 5-10 Sr Guard who averaged 3.5 points per game.

Lydia Giomi is a 6-6 Redshirt Soph Post who played a bit then injured early.



Predictions:
The Ducks will definitely fight for the top of the conference. Plus they have just one Sr and she’s a back-up player so the future is very bright.



2018 Recruiting:
Taylor Chavez, a 5-9 Guard from Arizona ranked # 53.
Nyara Sabally, a 6-3 Forward from Germany and a sister of the current frosh player. She is the 2nd highest ranked international recruit.

Pac 12 Preview: Cal

Last Season: 20-14 overall and 6-12 in conference play.

The Coaches:
Lindsay Gottlieb is in her 7th year as Head Coach at Cal after 3 years as Head Coach at UCSB and two years before that as the lead Assistant at Cal.
Charmin Smith with 2 degrees from Stanford returns for her 11th season at Cal and is now the Associate Head Coach.
Kai Felton is back for her 7th year at Cal. Kai has been an Assistant at Oregon, 2 years, and at USC, 5 years.
Wendale Farrow is in his 2nd season.


Losses:
For the 2nd straight year al has only one notable loss. Country Range averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds. Range also had 40 threes although at 30%.

Additions:
Alaysia Styles is a 6-3 Forward from La Jolla Country Day School. Styles averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds as a HS Sr and was ranked # 90.
Sara Anastasieska is a 5-11 Guard from Australia. Sara is a transfer from U of Texas San Antonio where she scored 5 points per game. She sat out this past season at Cal and will now play.

Kianna Smith is a 6-0 Guard from SoCal. Smith averaged 21 points as a HS Sr and was a McD All American, ranked # 17. Her Dad coaches at Cal State Fullerton where her brother plays.



The Schedule: Cal plays UConn, Kentucky, BYU and St Mary’s. Cal plays the Oregon schools only away Utah and Colorado only at home.



The Team:
Kristine Anigwe is a 6-4 Jr Center. Last season she averaged 21 points and 9 rebounds. The down side was 3 turnovers per game, however that was an improvement. Anigwe was ranked as high as 13 out of HS and was a McD All American.

Mikayla Cowling is a 6-2 Sr Forward who scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds per game.

Asha Thomas is a 5-4 Jr Guard. Thomas is from Oakland and last season averaged 9 points and 3 assists per game. Thomas also led the team with 63 threes at 38%.

Penina Davidson is a 6-3 Sr Post or Wing. Last season she averaged 6 points and 5 rebounds per game.

Mi’Cole Clayton is a 5-9 Soph Guard who averaged 6 points per game.

CJ West is a 6-4 Soph Post who averaged 3 points and 3 rebounds in 8 minutes.

Jaeyln Brown is a 6-1 Soph Wing, who averaged 5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 16 minutes.

MaAne Mosley is a 5-11 Jr Wing. Mosley is from Oakland and this past season she averaged just 1 point in very limited play
Chen Yue is a 6-7 Jr Center from China who played just 58 minutes this past season.



Predictions:
Cal started last year winning their first 13, then went 7-14. The Bears have talent, however have been so unpredictable the past two seasons.

Pac 12 Preview: Oregon State

Updates: ASU has a commitment from 5 star 6-1 JC Guard Iris Junio, originally from Spain. Junio has not yet been accepted but if so will play for ASU when Pac 12 League play starts.
Washington has a 2018 commit. Haley Van Dyke a 6-0 Forward ranked # 95. Haley is from the East Bay, Campolindo HS.



Pac 12 Preview: Oregon State

Last Season: 31-5, 16-2 Pac 12 Champions and a Sweet 16 team. It’s the 3nd straight Pac 12 Championship for the Beavers.


The Coaches:
Scott Rueck is in his 8th year and has been an outstanding coach, turning the then lowly Beavers into a Final 4 team.
James Chatterton is in his 4nd year.
Katie Baker is in her 2nd year, and she works with the post players. Baker is a 2013 Graduate of the University of Montanan.
Brian Holsinger is in his 2nd season after 8 seasons at Washington State. Brian coaches guards.


Losses:
The great Sydney Wiese graduated. Last season Wiese averaged 15 points and 4.5 assists. Wiese made 103 threes at 43%.
Breanna Brown averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Gabriella Hanson averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds
Kobie Orum averaged 7 points and 5 rebounds.
Tarea Green just played a few games



Additions:
Aleah Goodman is a 5-9 Frosh guard from the state of Oregon. Goodman was the three time Oregon Player of the Year and was ranked # 63.
Tara Corosdale is a 6-3 post player from Washington, ranked # 26 .

Joanna Grymek is a 6-8 Center from Poland. Joanna transferred from a JC where she played for 2 seasons. Last season she averaged 15 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Destiny Slocum is a 5-7 Soph Guard from Idaho who played last season at Maryland. Slocum was a McD All American in HS and continued that by being the Big Ten Frosh of the year this past season. She will sit out this season, I believe.



The Schedule: The Beavers play Duke and Notre Dame but after that North Dakota may be their toughest non conference game. The Beavers play Stanford and Cal only at home and the Colorado and Utah only on the road.


The Team:
Mikayla Pivec is a 5-10 Soph Guard who averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds per game. Pivec was recruited heavily by Stanford and choose Oregon State. She was 4th in the State of Washington 800, 4th in the 1600 and won the State Javelin. An outstanding athlete, Pivec was the State of Washington Gatorade Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.

Katie McWilliams is a 6-2 Jr Guard who averaged 5 points last season but could have a break out season. Katie was ranked as high as # 40 nationally out of HS.

Marie Gulich is a 6-5 Sr Center from Germany who averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds last season.

Kat Tudor is a 6-0 Soph Guard and might the best three point shooter in the Pac 12. Kat made 371 Threes in HS at 43%. Last season Kat averaged 5 points while making 49 threes at 41%, in 13 minutes per game.

Madison Washington is a 6-1 Soph Forward who didn’t play much this past season.

Janessa Thropay is a 6-2 Soph Forward who also didn’t play much

Taylor Kalmer is a 5-8 Sr Guard who averaged 3 points in just 9 minutes per game last season.



Predictions: The Beavers return 4 very good players and have a fine recruiting class. However a huge loss in Wiese and three other very solid players. Of course a year ago we said big losses and then the Beavers win the Pac 12 regular season championship. It’s a question with Slocum, it appears from what I have read she can play immediately. If true then the Beavers will be young but very good.

Pac 12 Preview: Colorado

An update: Utah has added a 2018 recruit, 4 star Lola Pendande of Spain.

PAC 12 Preview: Colorado

Last Season: Colorado went 17-16, 10 more wins than the season before, and 5-13 in the conference,.

The Coaches: Head Coach JR Payne will be in her 2nd year at Colorado after two seasons at Santa Clara. Colorado improved greatly this past season. Two years Payne led Santa Clara to its first winning season in 8 seasons and finished 23-9. JR, no periods, and real name Ali-Marie, is a graduate of St Mary’s where she played for now Oregon coach Kelly Graves. Her first coaching job was at age 23 for Graves when he started at Gonzaga.

Shandrika Lee is in her 2nd season as an assistant at Colorado after coaching for Payne at Santa Clara. Lee is a graduate of Pepperdine and has coached at Oregon.

Toriano Towns is also in his 2nd and also coached with Payne at Santa Clara. Towns coached at Gonzaga with Payne and later at Arizona where he was the Post coach for the great, late Polk.

Alex Earl is in her 2nd year on the staff. Alex was an assistant with Payne this two seasons ago at Santa Clara and played for years at ASU graduating in 2013. Alex was a HS teammate of JJ Hones on a team where all five starters player Division 1 basketball.



Losses: A total of 8 losses which leaves just 5 returning players. 4 players graduated, 3 transferred and one retired.
Haley Smith graduated after scoring 11 points per game and hitting 47 threes at 39%

Ariana Freeman had to retire with injuries after averaging 8 points.

Makenzie Ellis averaged 6 points and transferred to SMU.

Monica Burich transferred to Drake after averaging 4 points and 3 rebounds.

Zoe Beard-Falls graduated after averaging 4 points.

Eleanor Jones transferred and Lauren Huggins graduated but neither played much.

These players above accounted for half the scoring last season.



Additions:
Eight new players and only 2 were signed during the normal November LOI date
Jenna Bunn is a 6-3 Jr Post from Midland College in Texas. Jenna is from Mass, but when to a JC as a frosh sat out one year then to a Texas JC. In her JC career she averaged 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

Peyton Carter is a 5-8 Frosh Guard from Colorado, where as a HS Sr she averaged 16 points and was named All State.

Mya Hollingshed is a 6-4 Frosh Forward from Texas where she averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds as a Sr. Both her Dad and Grandfather played College basketball and Grandfather was an NBA 2nd round draft choice.

Mathilde Diop is a 6-2 Soph JC transfer who is from France. Last year at the JC she averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds. She is originally from Senegal where her Father was an Olympic basketball player.

Annika Jank is a 6-3 Frosh Post from MN where she is her school’s all time leading scorer. Last season, in HS, she averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds. In 29015 she was the state Champion in Ultimate Frisbee.

Aubrey Knight is a 5-8 Frosh Guard from SoCal where for the last three years she was her league’s MVP. Last season she averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds. Her goal is to become a detective.

Sara Castro is a 5-8 Frosh Guard from Spain, born and raised in the Canary Islands. She averaged 15 points as a HS Sr.

Jaimie Curtis is a 6-7 Jr Post from near Sacramento. Last season at Sierra College she averaged 7 points and 5 rebounds.


The Schedule: The Pre conference schedule isn’t available yet. Colorado plays the Oregon schools once each and also they play Stanford and Cal once each. A huge break.



The Team: Kennedy Leonard is a 5-8 Jr Guard who averaged 17 points and almost 6 assists per game last season.

Alexis Robinson is a 5-10 Jr Guard who averaged 11 points per game.

Zoe Correal is a 6-4 Sr Post form San Francisco who averaged 4 points and had 4 rebounds in 15 minutes per game.

Becca Thomas is a 5-5 Sr Guard who averaged 6 minutes per game.

Quinessa Caylao-Do is a 5-8 Jr Guard who averaged 2 points in 15 minutes per game.




Predictions: Leonard and Robinson are excellent players but the other players, other than Correal are young or inexperienced. It’s going to be a long season in Boulder.


2018 Recruiting:
Cameron Swartz a 5-10 unranked Guard from Georgia.
Sirena Tuitele a 6-2 Forward from NorCal, also unranked.
