Predictions and Results

Please also read the story below this, the Results of this week.

Note the Stats are through Dec 30th in most cases.

1. Stanford ( 9-2 ): Stanford is shooting 48% overall, 38% from three and 75% from the free throw line. Jeanette and Nneka are both averaging 17 points per game, Nneka and Kayla 8+ rebounds per game. Opponents are shooting only 35%.

2. UCLA (10-1) UCLA has 6 players averaging between 8.6 and 12 points per game. They are balanced and deep at the wing and guard positions although they do not have a post player averaging more than 2.5 points per game. They have made only 19 threes at only 28%. However they have created 14 steals per game and their assist to turnover ratio is almost even. Their top rebounder is Jasmine Dixon, who is also their # 2 scorer. The Bruins have outrebounded their opponents by just over 7 per game. On the downside, they hit 61% of their free throws. UCLA swarms and presses and drive to the hoop.

3. USC ( 9-3, 1-0 ): The Trojans are hitting 41% from the floor and a fine 36% from three. They have 5 players contributing strongly. Briana Gilbreath with 14 points and 8 rebounds per game, Ashley Corral 14 points and 4 assists, Jackie Gemelos 13 points, Christina Marinacci 10 points and 8 rebounds and Cassie Harberts almost 9 points per game.

4. Cal ( 8-3): Cal is young and will get better but also has injury problems. Gennifer Brandon is now being redshirted with her leg injury. DeNesha Stallworth and Talia Caldwell have played well in the paint. Stallwoth is averaging 16 points and 7 rebounds while Caldwell is averaging 11 points and 9 rebounds. Their assist to turnover ratio is below average and they are shooting 42% from the floor. Frosh Lindsay Sherbert is hitting 36% from three but only has 16. Lashia Clarendon is averaging 13 points and hitting 43% from three but has only made 12. Depth is a problem with their injuries.

5. ASU ( 9-2, 1-0 ) Dymond Simon leads the way at 15.3 points per game and the only player scoring more than 9 per game. Of course that’s due more to the hockey style substitution than anything else. 6 players are averaging between 4.4 and 8.8 points per game and after Simon at 28 minutes per game 8 players are at 15 to 23 minutes per game. The Sun Devils are outrebounding their opponents by 6. But they are only 1:1.5 in assists to turnovers and only 25% from three. Simon has the most threes, only 10 and that at 22%.

6. Arizona ( 10-2, 1-0 ): Davellyn Whyte and Ify Ibekwe are both averaging 15 points per game and Ify 10 rebounds per game. The Wildcats have an almost even assist to turnover ratio and are shooting 45% from the floor. Shanita Arnold is averaging 6 assists per game and has a 1.6: 1 assists to turnover ratio.

7. Oregon ( 9-3, 0-1 ). Amanda Johnson is averaging 20 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Nia Jackson has a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio and is averaging 15.5 points per game. Oregon can score, 88 points per game, but they are shooting only 39% and have played a very weak non conference schedule.

8. Oregon State, ( 7-5, 0-1 ): Frosh Alyssa Martin is the top scoring frosh in the Pac 10 at 15.5 points per game. El Sara Greer is the only Sr and she is averaging 9 points and 9 rebounds per game. Sage Indenti is at 9 points per game and Alixis Bostick at 8 points per game. None of their team stats are very good except on their defensive side, where they are holding opponents to 52 points per game and 35% from the floor.

9. Washington State (2-11, 0-1): They are shooting 24 % from three and 38% overall. They have 8 players averaging between 7-9.4 points per game, but no one has stepped up as a solid scorer.

10. Washington (5-5, 0-1 ): Kristi Kingma is averaging 16.7 points per game. Regina Rogers is still out with an injury. The Huskies are scoring only 53 points per game and shooting only 37%. Their assist to turnover ratio is a very poor 1:1.9.
